PERMANENT ABSENTEE LIST VOTERS: If you have previously requested to be on the permanent absentee list, you will automatically be mailed a ballot for each election you qualify to participate in. There is no need to complete another application. Ballots will be mailed to the registered address listed on your voter registration per state statute.
OCTOBER 6, 2026 - First day ballots can be mailed
OCTOBER 20, 2026 - Deadline to submit an Absentee Ballot Application.
NOVEMBER 3, 2026 - Absentee ballots MUST be returned in the proper envelope to the Clerk's Office by 7:00 pm on Election Day. Failure to complete the information on the return absentee envelope, which includes the last 4 digits of the voter's Social Security number and signature, will result in rejection of the absentee ballot.
MONITORED SECURED CONTAINERS: For your convenience, there are two secured monitored containers you can drop your absentee ballot in. One is at #1 St. Mary's Place - take the entrance to the Casa Maria Nursing Home off of S. Main Street. The box will be located on the left-hand side right after the entrance to the parking lot. The other container is located in the parking lot of the Chaves County Courthouse, near the alley and 5th Street.
