Absentee Voting (Vote by Mail) begins Tuesday, May 5, 2026 (First day ballots can be mailed)
In order to receive an absentee ballot, a voter must submit an Absentee Ballot Application for each election, unless the voter is on the voluntary permanent absentee list. Applications may be obtained at the Chaves County Clerk's Office, mailed to voters by request by calling (575)624-6614, or submitted online at nmvote.org. The deadline for submitting an Absentee Application is Tuesday, May 19, 2026.  Complete Absentee Voting Materials MUST be returned in the proper envelope to the Clerk's Office by 7:00pm on Election Day, June 2, 2026.

Failure to complete the return absentee envelope, which includes the last 4 numbers of the voters social security number and signature, will result in rejection of the absentee ballot.
